Bayern teammates form a guard of honour for Ballon d’Or winner Kane before German Cup match

Ballon D’Or winner Harry Kane received a guard of honor from his Bayern Munich teammates before a German Cup second-round game on Wednesday in Munich.

The 33-year-old striker waved to the home crowd at Allianz Arena as he walked out. Kane stayed on the bench throughout the game, which Bayern won 6-1 against second-division Magdeburg.

Celebration to continue at home

Home fans are set to celebrate Kane again before Saturday’s table-topping Bundesliga clash with Borussia Dortmund. Both sides are level on points.

A historic award for Bayern

Kane became the first English winner of the prize in 25 years. For Bayern, it marked the club’s first Ballon D’Or winner in 45 years and the first for any player at a German club since 1996.

Kane scored 73 goals for club and country last season, when he was Europe’s top scorer. His six goals at the World Cup helped England to a third-place finish.

Kane is Bayern’s fourth Ballon D’Or winner. He joins German greats Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who won the award in 1981.
