New injury worry for Manchester United as up to ten players could be out of historic Champions League clash

Manchester United have been hit by fresh injury concerns ahead of their Champions League trip to Como, with up to ten senior players potentially unavailable after several high-profile names missed Tuesday’s training session.

United travel to the shores of Lake Como on Wednesday evening to face Cesc Fabregas’ side. They want to bounce back from their defeat to Atletico Madrid on matchday two of this season’s league phase.

The match will be played at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia following approval from UEFA. It is a historic occasion, as United have never faced Como in a competitive fixture.

Selection dilemma for Carrick

Head coach Michael Carrick may now face a selection headache. Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Ayden Heaven, Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford were all absent from Tuesday morning’s session at Carrington. That has sparked fears they will not be named in the travelling squad.

Mainoo, Shaw and Heaven missed the 1-1 draw with Leeds at the weekend. Martinez was replaced at half-time in that game after picking up a thigh injury.

Rashford was an unused substitute at Elland Road, and Carrick has confirmed the England international has been carrying a knock recently.

“Marcus has been carrying a little bit of something so we’re managing him to a point,” the United head coach said.

Long-term absentees and a suspension

As expected, long-term absentees Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte did not train. Third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton was also missing.

Leny Yoro is guaranteed to miss the trip to Italy. He is serving a suspension after being sent off in the Spanish capital.
